In 2012, Dr. Leandro M. Vieira finished his PhD in Biological Sciences (Zoology) at the Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil. Between 2013 and 2014, he was Postdoctoral Fellowship of Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP) in the Centro de Biologia Marinha of Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil.. He is Professor at the Department of Zoology at Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, Brazil since 2014, being elected as head of Department between 2017 and 2019.
As coordinator of the research group Laboratório de Estudos de Bryozoa, Dr. Leandro has dozen of international collaborators, and is the coordinating author of the revised part of the Treatise of Invertebrate Paleontology, Part. G: Bryozoa, vol. 3. He is the team leader (Bryozoa, Brachiopoda, Entoprocta and Phoronida) and collaborator of the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil project. Actually, he is an International Bryozoology Association Council Member (2013–2019).
Dr. Leandro has focused on systematics, phylogeny and bioinvasions of marine bryozoans, covering other aspects on biotechnology, conservations and evolution of that group. He has more than 30 articles, dozens of communications in conferences and workshops, being author of more than 150 new bryozoan taxa.
